When I went into the second grade classrooms of a couple of our teachers in our school, I was just wowed at all the different seating options they offered. So with their permission, I can pass on these novel seating arrangements. These are great options for so many reasons. First, we would all get tired of sitting in the same hard chair everyday. As adults we can only sit so long ourselves in the same spot before our bottom becomes numb. Second, these options are great for our students who have behavior or sensory issues. Given a chance to change seating may diminish a student’s distracting behavior for him/herself and for others. Then for students who have sensory issues, they know ahead of time that they are able to choose their seating preference or change up their seating throughout the day. They don’t have to dread sitting in their least favorite seat, and then they can look forward to sitting in their favorite seat. These options are fabulous!
